A Book Can Give Hope

Read Between The Bars is a books to prisoners collective based in sunny Tucson, Arizona. We send free books to prisoners in Arizona. We have donated over 400 books to the Pinal County Jail library, and we have sent 200 books to individual prisoners fulfilling their requests.

We are seeking donations and opportunities for further fundraising so that we can expand our core mission of improving prisoner's lives by exposing them to education, new ideas, or just the escape of a good story.

For years, programs throughout the nation have been distributing books, free of charge, to prisoners. A book can change the life of a prisoner: it can give an escape from the tedium of prison life, teach new skills, and open up interests in fields that can benefit the prisoner and society at large.

If you have a friend or relative in an Arizona prison and they would like books, please send them our information:

How It Works!

Volunteers read letters and match books to the request.

Then they package them up to be mailed to the individual prisoner.

...and we always have snacks! :-)
